Mini Golf review

Initial impressions of Mini Golf on Samsung Smart TVs are good, with quirky presentation and a promising premise. Unfortunately not as much effort and thought has been put into the actualy gameplay, making this one of the most frustrating Smart TV games you can currently play.

Don’t like the bright and happy graphics fool you. Aiming the putting and hitting the ball via a power meter is exactly as you’d expect it – however, everything else has been built in such a sloppy manner that you’ll most likely quit in frustration before you even reach the ninth hole. The ball bounces awkwardly off invisible edges and walls, while graphical bugs are aplenty.

We’re not sure what the worst part of the game is. It may be the way in which the ball grinds ever so slowly to a halt each time you hit it, meaning you’re sat watching it completely overshoot where you were aiming for over and over again. Or maybe it’s the incredibly annoying 10 second music sample that plays on a loop for the entirety of play. All we know is, we were praying for the end throughout our playthrough.

Verdict

A promising premise let down by shoddy level design, awful ball physics and collisions, and the most grating music loop you’ve ever heard.
